Virgin Galactic has relocated another spaceship to their commercial headquarters at Spaceport America in New Mexico. Close to 100 teammates from Mojave, California have moved to New Mexico and Spaceport America today is operationally ready with VSS Unity and VMS Eve, and over 70 locally hired team members. “New Mexico is going to be the world’s launchpad for commercial spaceflight,” New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham said.
Now, Virgin Galactic has announced their “One Small Step for those wanting to be first considered when the next group of seats is released by Virgin Galactic. Beyond the 600 reservations taken from Future Astronaut customers from 60 countries interest has been consistently high amongst aspiring astronauts with the result being 7,957 online reservations since the first spaceflight fifteen months ago which is more than twice the reported number in September 2019.
As of February 26th the One Small Step process was launched and allowed the general public to pay the fully refundable US 1,000 deposit on the registration portal at www.virgingalactic.com/smallstep/. The initiative is to take One Small Step towards taking the One Giant Leap for a confirmation of a spaceflight reservation and becoming a member of the Virgin Galactic Future Astronaut community, those wanting to be first considered when the next group of seats is released by Virgin Galactic to then take.
“We have been greatly encouraged by the ongoing and increasing demand seen from around the world for personal spaceflight. One Small Step allows us to help qualify and build confidence in our direct sales pipeline, as well as to ensure that those who are most keen to make reservations, are able to do so at the earliest opportunity”, said Stephen Attenborough, Virgin Galactic’s Commercial Director when talking about the new initiative.
