The High Consortium of Southern NM continues to bring important technology developments to Las Cruces community. At the August 17, 2012 HTC Meeting Scott Bryant, President of the Nano-Network of New Mexico will present opportunities in global trade with Belgian networks, partnerships in R&D and in commercialization with Belgian/European institutes, universities, firms, and initiatives.
Today’s developments in nano and biotechnologies are increasingly relying on global connections, starting from early R&D to final development stages. Convergence is the operative keyword as this trend forges alliances between semiconductors and chemical companies, between pharmaceuticals and biology, between IT and energy technologies, and on a broader technological level, between nanotechnologies and biotechnologies. New economic opportunities arise from the growing interfacing between these biotech and nanotechnologies, or nanobio. The challenges to bring such disruptive technologies to the market are unprecedented, ranging from truly multidisciplinary research to matching totally different business models between the various industries. Global collaboration, combined with tailored business models and worldwide access to the right human capital are key success factors. In Flanders, Belgium, this message has been understood and acted upon reaching back twenty years. Examples of this trend will be given of industry consortia that span the globe.
Flanders Investment and Trade is the government’s trade and investment agency operating in nearly 90 countries worldwide. At the request of the Nano-Network of New Mexico, Dr. Jan Wauters’ information will be presented to two New Mexican high-tech associations about opportunities in global trade with Belgian networks, partnerships in R&D and in commercialization with Belgian/European institutes, universities, firms, and initiatives, HTC is one of those groups. This informational talk and networking is a collaborative effort among several New Mexico’s high-tech associations to expand opportunities for New Mexican organizations and entrepreneurs.
Two cameo talks presented by Scott Bryant of the Nano-Network of New Mexico will be combined to present to the topic of the convergence of biotechnology, information, and nanotechnology into nanomedicine applications. Mr. Bryant will set the stage to highlight the areas of nanomedicine innovation needed from small entrepreneurial firms, inform about opportunities to partner with European biomedical projects, and, time willing, develop some discussion about regional capabilities and incentives to generate nanobiotech companies to meet the market.
