The Mesilla Valley Economic Development Alliance (MVEDA) announced its FY ’16 success in meeting its annual goals during the July 5th Business in the Borderplex Forum. MVEDA met or exceeded its goal in the 6 of the 7 measurements determined by the Board of Directors.
For FY ’16, new economic base jobs created totaled 482, which over 3 years will create $14.7M in new payroll. These new jobs will come from 9 projects ranging in size from as few as 2 new employees to as many as 100.
MVEDA staff met with 48 local companies in its “Retention and Expansion Program” to assist them in expanding their business or, in the case of non-economic base companies, to assist them in exporting their goods and services outside of New Mexico. The “Retention and Expansion Program” was so successful that 60% of the new jobs created in FY ’16 were a result of the program.
During the meeting, MVEDA also announced a new marketing initiative, MVEDA Matters, to help explain how economic development impacts local businesses. The initiative was developed by MVEDA’s Branding & Awareness Committee, chaired by Terriane Morrison Everhart. The rollout includes a new MVEDA Matters website which will be updated with new features in the coming months.
