Global Trade magazine has selected 105 cities to its fourth annual “Best Cities for Global Trade” report, placing each honoree into one of 10 categories—Best Business Environment, Best Infrastructure, Most Innovative, Most Employee Friendly, Best Site Selection Assistance, Best Export Assistance, Best Workforce, Global Vibe, Emerging Cities and 15 To Watch.
The Las Cruces NM MSA (Doña Ana County) was among the ten cities named in the Emerging Cities category (page 88). The selection was based on the 210.9 percent increase in exports that led the nation in 2014. The article points out that New Mexico led the nation in export related job growth with a 107 percent increase in 2014.
Other cities named in the category include: Baton Rouge, LA; Charleston, SC; Grand Rapids, MI; Greeley, CO; Madison, WI; Orlando, FL; Sacramento, CA; Toledo, OH; and Virginia, VA. Albuquerque, NM and El Paso, TX were included in the Best Export Assistance category. Farmington, NM was included in the 15 To Watch category.
The selections were made by Global Trade’s editors based on various data-based and anecdotal criteria, with the most common component being each city’s active approach to attracting U.S. manufacturers and logistics companies in an effort to develop their local economies.
