The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) will host a pre-legislative luncheon and roundtable on Thursday, Dec. 27, at the Hilton Garden Inn, 2550 S. Don Roser Drive. Scheduled to make an appearance as keynote speaker is Governor Susana Martinez, who is expected to address many of the issues facing small businesses today.
“The better informed small business becomes, the better able they are to communicate with lawmakers and help them understand our most critical and important priorities,” said NFIB State Director Minda McGonagle. “Hearing from the governor, getting briefed on potential legislation then talking together are powerful motivators to speak up and get involved in the legislative process. We will also be inviting area legislators to participate with us.”
Directly following lunch will be a briefing with discussions on expected legislative proposals impacting small business including taxes, employment, health insurance, unemployment insurance and economic development. NFIB is the leading small business association representing small and independent businesses. A nonprofit, nonpartisan organization founded in 1943, NFIB represents the consensus views of its members in Washington and all 50 state capitals. A member of the NFIB since 2009, McGonagle will serve the New Mexico members as lobbyist from day one through day 60 of the legislative session, in addition to attending to their legislative and regulatory needs year round.
The luncheon will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27. Cost is $20 per person and reservations are being taken until noon, Wednesday, Dec. 26. To make reservations, contact McGonagle at minda.mcgonagle@nfib.org or by calling 505-228-3755.
