As reported by the Las Cruces Sun-News, the Las Cruces City Council unanimously adopted a resolution identifying 182 acres of undeveloped land just south of Las Cruces International Airport for a commercial aerospace business and research park.
Companies that can meet the requirements of the city’s Local Economic Development Act – by guaranteeing new jobs at or better than the average wage for Doña Ana County residents – would be eligible to build a plant within the research park.
“This action will save the opportunity for the city to be part of the aerospace industry as it continues to grow and develop,” said Christine Logan, economic development coordinator for the city of Las Cruces. “This also protects the opportunity for the land in the West Mesa Industrial Park to be specifically used by the aerospace industry. We need to allow the aerospace industry to develop in southern New Mexico.”
